12日、政田にある「沼名前神社」の夏祭りが行われた。初めてのことなので、「神輿の送り出し」に参加させていただいた。
この神輿、実は横樋観音へのお参りから江川に入り、水の中を神社に戻るとのこと。江戸時代、干拓後の村落に疫病が流行した際、福山の鞆にある沼名前神社から分けてもらった神様が、横樋から川を上って神社に着いたという説に沿って今も神輿を川に入れてみんなで運ぶ慣わしとなっている。
珍しくもあり、興味が湧いてくるお祭りである。
